Horace Hagedorn (1915-2005) was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist. He co-founded the company Miracle-Gro, which became one of the leading brands of lawn and garden fertilizers in the United States. Hagedorn was born in New York City and worked as a copywriter for an advertising agency before starting his own business. He founded the Miracle-Gro Company in 1951 with his business partner Otto Stern. In addition to Miracle-Gro, Hagedorn also founded a number of other companies, including the S&M NuTec Corporation and United Industries Corporation.
Hagedorn was a noted philanthropist and donated millions of dollars to charitable causes, particularly those related to education, health, and the arts. He established the Horace Hagedorn Foundation, which supports causes such as cancer research, hospice care, and youth education. Hagedorn was also an avid art collector and his collection included works by Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet. He donated a number of his paintings to the Nassau County Museum of Art in New York. Hagedorn passed away in 2005 at the age of 89.
